Paulding County Seat

Houses in Dallas, GA

Welcome to Dallas, the Paulding County seat northwest of Atlanta, where a historic courthouse square meets newer subdivisions and the Silver Comet Trail.

Dallas is the seat of Paulding County and a gateway to Atlanta's northwest suburbs, situated roughly 35 miles from downtown Atlanta. The city anchors a county that has grown from a rural outpost into one of metro Atlanta's most active suburban markets, yet Dallas itself retains a small-town scale centered on its historic courthouse square. Named for Vice President George M. Dallas, the city has served as the county seat since the nineteenth century. The historic downtown is Dallas's defining feature. The Paulding County Courthouse anchors a square surrounded by older homes with genuine architectural character, local shops, city hall and community spaces. Victorian and early-twentieth-century houses near the square contrast with the newer master-planned communities — such as Oakleigh Pointe and the subdivisions of East and West Paulding — that have expanded the city's housing stock and population. Paulding County's growth has shaped Dallas's economy, which blends local government, education, retail and services with a substantial base of commuters traveling toward Marietta and Atlanta for work. The Paulding County School District, headquartered in Dallas, is one of the state's largest employers and a major draw for families. Healthcare, distribution and light industry add further employment across the county. The Silver Comet Trail, a 61.5-mile paved rail-trail running from Smyrna toward the Alabama line, passes through Dallas and Paulding County, drawing cyclists and walkers and adding outdoor value to the community. A restored 1901 train trestle crosses Pumpkinvine Creek within the county, and adjacent mountain-bike trails extend the trail system for more technical riding. For homebuyers, Dallas offers small-town character, a strong county school system and comparatively attainable housing within the Atlanta region, at the cost of a longer commute into the urban core. It suits families and first-time buyers seeking space, newer homes and a close-knit community identity, with the Silver Comet Trail adding a signature recreational amenity.
